Results achieved by student athletes of SBU at 16th National Student Olympiad

The 16th Cultural and Sports Olympiad for university students was held in Isfahan from August 5 to 14. Shahid Beheshti University (SBU) sent a delegation of 53 female students in 9 sports and 70 male athletes in 12 sports to compete in the event.


Taekwondo team secures first place
The Taekwondo team of SBU clinched first place with a total of 184 points, surpassing the University of Tehran and Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. The team won one gold medal, one silver medal, and scored the highest among all competitors.
Amirhossein Maleki won a gold medal in the 63 kg weight category, and Saeed Fathi, a sports science student, earned a silver medal in the over 87 kg category.
In a touching moment, Saeed Fathi dedicated his silver medal to his mother in gratitude for her support.
The Taekwondo team members included Amirhossein Maleki (63 kg, gold), Saeed Fathi (over 87 kg, silver), Amir Sadra Rahimi (under 80 kg), Saeed Sajadi (under 58 kg), Amirhossein Mehmandoust (74 kg), Mojtaba Rouhi (under 87 kg), and Meydia Naseri in the Poomsae category. The team was coached by Ali Mehmandoust and led by Dr. Mohammad Javad Naeiji.


Women’s rifle team of SBU wins championship
The women’s rifle team, consisting of Najmeh Khedmati, Negar Ghahremani, and Fatemeh Samari, coached by Elaheh Karami and led by Dr. Roshan Akhgar, secured first place. Najmeh Khedmati won a gold medal, and Negar Gharamani earned a bronze.


Wushu team secures second place
The university's Wushu team claimed second place at the 16th Olympiad, earning two gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze with a total of 47 points, finishing behind the University of Isfahan and ahead of the University of Tehran.
Adel Najafi (85 kg) and Mohammad Khanmohammadi (over 90 kg) won gold medals.
Ali Khamesi secured a bronze medal in the 80 kg category.
Mohammad Yousofzadeh, a student in sports science, won two silver medals in the Daoshu and Changquan forms of the Taolu category.
The team members were Adel Najafi (85 kg, gold), Mohammad Khanmohammadi (over 90 kg, gold), Ali Rudbari (70 kg, silver), Mohammad Yousofzadeh (two silver medals), and Ali Khamsi (80 kg, bronze), coached by Dr. Seyed Mohammad Hosseini and led by Davood Bagheri.


Gold medal in women’s taekwondo
Seyyedeh Sanaz Sadreddini, a sports science student at SBU, won a gold medal in women’s taekwondo by defeating her opponent from Kharazmi University in the final match.
 In the second weight category of the competition, Negar Esmaeili, a national player from the university, despite her skill and capability, was defeated by a national taekwondo athlete from the University of Semnan. As a result, she was eliminated from the competition and did not advance to the next round.


Results of women’s swimming events
SBU’s female swimmers competed in the 16th Olympiad.
Sepideh Mosalla secured third place in the 50-meter breaststroke out of 27 participants.
The university’s relay team (Sepideh Mosalla, Tahereh Hozouri, Mohaddeseh Ahmadi, and Tina Afshar Hajjari) finished third in the 4x50 meter freestyle relay. The team was coached by Rojan Pirooznia and led by Somayeh Salimian.


Silver medal in rifle shooting
Hadi Gharehbaghi, a sports science student, won a silver medal in rifle shooting, finishing in second place at the Olympiad. Gharehbaghi is also a member of Iran’s national shooting team and a master's student in sports pathology.
Another sports pathology student, Reza Asadi, finished seventh in the 10-meter air pistol event.


Gold medal in athletics
SBU’s athletics team finished seventh overall.
Hossein Rashmeh Karim won a gold medal in the discus throw, setting a personal record of 46.23 meters. His throw was more than five meters farther than the second-place finisher.
In the hammer throw, Parsa Soltani, a master’s student in sports physiology, won a bronze medal with a throw of 31.40 meters. His previous best was 25 meters. Hossein Rashmeh Karim also finished fourth with a throw of 30.80 meters, earning four points for the university.
The team was coached by Dr. Mohammad Fashi and led by Mahyar Talari.


Gold Medal in Badminton
Mehdi Rezaei, an undergraduate sports science student, won the gold medal in the men’s individual badminton event, defeating the fifth-ranked player from Kharazmi University 2-1 in a close final.
The badminton team included Ali Mohammadian, Mehdi Rezaei, Matin Khalili, Mohammadreza Gheysari, and Mohammadpourya Karimpour. The team was coached by Dr. Ebrahim Motesharei and led by Navid Seifan.

Results of men’s table tennis
Amir Mohammad Sarmadi, an undergraduate actuarial science student, was eliminated from the men’s table tennis competition after a 3-1 loss to the national runner-up from Isfahan University of Technology.


Silver medal for women’s athletics
Seyyedeh Fatemeh Sima Shadkam, an undergraduate sports science student, won a silver medal in the 1500-meter race, finishing second out of 19 competitors.
Third place for men’s basketball team
SBU’s men’s basketball team finished in third place at the 16th Cultural and Sports Olympiad.
