The book "Principles and Fundamentals of Analytical Photogrammetry," authored by Dr. Asghar Milan, an assistant professor at Shahid Beheshti University (SBU), has been published recently by SBU Press in 282 pages.
Photogrammetry is the science and art of obtaining actual measurements in object space from photograph measurements. To achieve this goal, a model of the object is simulated and measured. If the simulation is analytical (mathematical), it is referred to as analytical photogrammetry. In analog devices, spatial rods, load bars, elements, and physical components are used to establish the conditions of collinearity, introduce parameters, and establish coplanarity conditions for model formation, thereby transforming information derived from photos into actual object information. In analytical methods, mathematical equations for the conditions of collinearity and coplanarity are formed using coordinates derived from photos measured with monocular comparators or stereocomparators, and the information derived from photos is transferred to object space information.
The present book is written in six chapters, and as its title suggests, the topics are presented fundamentally with sufficient reasoning based on mathematical and geometric concepts. The book is written in simple language to be an educational and practical resource for students of surveying, photogrammetry, and remote sensing, and to make its contents accessible to other interested readers. In writing this book, the latest approved curriculum of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology has been considered, and advancements in data collection and extraction from other sources such as LiDAR have been reviewed, with a brief reference to real-time photogrammetry topics.
The author has used credible scientific references in presenting the concepts discussed in the book. Additionally, to better understand the theoretical concepts, a detailed solution to the questions from the Master's entrance exams (from 1375 to 1400) related to the book's topics is included in the appendix.
Students and interested individuals can purchase this book from the sales office of the Scientific Works Publishing Center of Shahid Beheshti University, located on the ground floor of the Information Technology (IT) building, or order it online through the center's website. The electronic file of the book can also be purchased from the websites “Fidibo”, “Booket” and “Taaghche”.
