The book “Data Mining for Business Analytics: Concepts, Techniques and Applications in R” translated by Dr. Mohammad Reza Faghihi Habibabadi, Faculty Member of the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences of SBU, has been published recently by SBU Press in 754 pages. The book is authored by Galit Shmueli, Peter C. Bruce, Inbal Yahav, Nitin R. Patel, and Kenneth C. Lichtendahl.
In the last years of the twentieth century, with the increase in the speed of computer computing, the volume of data increased and as a result, data analysis and especially the extraction of hidden patterns in them became very important. At that time, the need to discover and extract these patterns led to the establishment of the data mining field, which was used in various large organizations and companies around the world. The exponential growth of data volumes and the increasing speed of their processing, especially in the second decade of the twenty-first century, has shaped the discipline of data sciences in which statistics, mathematics, and computer engineering and science play a role.
Today, although the field of data sciences in the world is the focus of managers and academic centers, the core of the work of a data science specialist is the extraction of knowledge from data, which is often done with data mining techniques.
Since data mining uses the two specialties of statistics and computer science and we cannot make the most of it without considering both topics, the existence of a source with attention to both topics which guides the reader to the correct implementation of data mining designs is very important. There are many books published in the field of data mining in the world, most of which do not have a comprehensive and appropriate approach. There are also many shortcomings in Persian sources, because studies show that the few books available in Persian have no usability in university education. However, the present book is also suitable for university education thanks to its numerous suitable features.
Data mining is used in many fields, one of the most important of which is Business Analytics, which is used in every organization, institution and company.
The present book describes data mining for business analytics, but the reader will be able to apply data mining in all areas by understanding its concepts and techniques.
