"Shahid Beheshti University Researchers Develop Innovative Method for Repairing Fragile Skull and Facial Bone Injuries"

An international research collaboration, spearheaded by scientists from the Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology at Shahid Beheshti University, has introduced a groundbreaking method for repairing delicate skull and facial bone injuries. The innovative approach combines stem cells with advanced nanotechnology-based scaffolds, promising a major breakthrough in regenerative medicine.

The method, developed in partnership with renowned institutions such as the Pasteur Institute of Iran, Wenzhou Medical University in China, Yuan Ze University in Taiwan, Savitribai Phule Pune University in India, and Istinye University in Turkey, integrates natural cellulose scaffolds coated with silica nanoparticles and proanthocyanidin, a compound derived from grape seeds. This scaffold not only supports stem cell differentiation into bone cells but also enhances their growth and proliferation without antibiotics.

Preclinical studies demonstrated rapid and effective bone tissue regeneration, along with antibacterial properties, reduced inflammation, and improved vascular and epithelial healing. Published in the prestigious journal Emergent Materials, this innovative solution holds significant potential for future clinical applications in treating critical skull and facial injuries.
